Sodium Nitrate

Also known as Chile saltpetre or Peru saltpeter, sodium nitrate is a white solid which is very soluble in water. It is largely found in Chile, Peru, and Bolivia though it may also be synthesized industrially by neutralizing nitric acid with soda ash. Uses: In fertilizers, pyrotechnics, a food preservative, a solid rocket propellant, and in glass and pottery enamels. CAS# (7631-99-4)
