Sodium Carbonate / Soda Ash

Also known as washing soda or soda ash, sodium carbonate is a sodium salt of carbonic acid. It appears as a white solid with an alkaline taste and is commonly produced from table salt in the Solvay process. Uses: Mainly used in the manufacture of glass, a common additive in pools to neutralize chlorine, as a replacement for sodium hydroxide in cooking, in chemistry as an electrolyte, as a water softener during laundry, and in the dyeing process to ensure proper chemical bonding of the dye with the fibers.
