Sodium Benzoate
Sodium benzoate is the sodium salt of benzoic acid and can be produced by reacting sodium hydroxide with benzoic acid. It is also found naturally in cranberries, prunes, greengage plums, cinnamon, ripe cloves, and apples. Uses: A preservative, mostly in salad dressings, carbonated drinks, jams, fruit juices, pickles, and condiments, in mouthwash, silver polish, and cough syrup, and also in fireworks as a fuel in whistle mix (the powder that makes fireworks whistle).
