Nitric Acid

Also known as aqua fortis and spirit of nitre, nitric acid is a highly corrosive and toxic strong acid that can cause severe burns. It is colorless when pure though it may yellow with the accumulation of oxides of nitrogen over time. It is produced by reacting nitrogen dioxide with water. Uses: In elemental analysis, to artificially age pine and maple wood, in metallurgy and refining, and in organic synthesis. CAS# (7697-37-2)
